Thanks, Larry. And thanks, Troy, for moving over to the host hotel. It's unfortunate that they require a guarantee deposit but I understand it's common.

Noel has arranged the Saturday dinner at Steamers, a local hangout. We will have the back deck to ourselves and Noel has told the establishment that there will be approximately 25 people. More on that as we get closer.

Noel has also offered his boat for rides on the lake. He can dock it close to the hotel. This is a great opportunity for those who haven't had the pleasure to be out on beautiful Lake Tahoe. Maybe this will spark some more interest in the event.

Okay, let's talk about a few things...

First, the barbecue at @Anthony Tony's shop. How many can make it? @Robert M, @MusbJim, @Larry Bull, @Teby S, @Troy Sloan, you think you guys will be there by 5-6:00pm? Who else will be coming? Bring your favorite cold beverages and anything you'd like to share. I believe burgers and dogs are on the grill...

Second, the Friday drive up to Tahoe. Who's up for that? I'd like to make reservations at one of the fine restaurants in our path but need a head count.

Third, the Saturday dinner. Noel needs a head count for the restaurant. We'll talk about cost soon but I promise it will be reasonable.

Last thing. When we arrive at the hotel we will have a no host reception. That means you bring something to nibble on and, hopefully, to share with others. There is a bar to order drinks from but nobody's gonna arrest you if you byob. Please try to keep your drinks in non-breakable vessels. Box wine, canned beer and red solo cups are preferred. Dinner theme that night will be "to each his own". There are several establishments around the hotel including one on the premises. Latch on to a friend or two and dine with those you're with.

I'll be nailing down the routes and activities over the next couple weeks. Please, if anyone has ideas or suggestions, please get in touch with me.

Terry, The Boss and I are down for this.

- Tony's Cue

- Friday drive up

- Saturday dinner

I think the Friday drive up should be the traditional Auburn-Nevada City-Cisco Grove-Old Donner Summit ascent rather than the Paris-Dakar Rally I attempted two years ago. There's such a thing as too much fun.

Maybe Friday lunch could be bring-your-own sandwiches at one of the public beaches?

Is Teby still planning to do Tango lessons Saturday night?

Ok. We're getting close. Reminder for you procrastinators, hotel cutoff date is Tuesday, 8/15.

So far, based on those who have replied in this thread and by other means, we have 17 for the bbq, 17 for the drive up to Tahoe and 21 for Saturday dinner. I know there as a few hold outs and I have sent messages to those I believe were planning to come. If you have already shouted out here - you have been counted. The rest of you? Chop chop!

Mitch, your idea of bringing a sandwich and picnicking along the way is a good one. There is a Subway at the gas stop in Grass Valley, along our route. We can pull into Meeks Bay or somewhere else since Noel has affirmed  there is no yellow jacket problem this year. I can also make reservations for Jake's in Tahoe City if the number stays under 20.

Is there interest in a boat ride? Noel has offered his boat and can take 7-8 people for a tour of the lake.

UPDATE: Thursday barbecue at Anthony's Classic Autowerks, time tbd. Friday Drive to Lake Tahoe: PACK A LUNCH!! We will meet at the Auburn Holiday Inn parking lot, located next to 'In n Out' at Hwy 49 & Hwy 80, at 10:00 am and leave promptly at 10:15. We'll drive up Hwy 49 through Auburn to Combie Rd. There is a Chevron station as well as a Subway for those of you needing a sandwich, etc. We'll gas up and head out for Grass Valley via scenic rural roads. We'll head up to Hwy 20 through the Tahoe National Forest. After a brief stint on Hwy 80, we'll head up historic Hwy 40 through the Sierra foothills and pull off at the vista point to take in beautiful Donner Lake.  We'll resume our drive past Donner Lake and pull off at the Emigrant Trail Museum,  where we'll be able to visit the museum to learn all about the Donner Party as well as picnic on the grounds. $10.00/car - $9.00/seniors.

After we're finished with lunch and the museum we'll head down Hwy 89 towards Lake Tahoe and onto our hotel where we can socialize by the pool/ lake/grounds. There is a bar at the hotel but we should bring our own snacks and any other beverages you might like. Dinner is open.

Saturday morning and through the day: open to what everyone wants to do. We can talk about this.

Saturday night: Dinner at Steamers. Details to be revealed soon.
