Hi guys,

I'm new on this and planning to buil my own 550. I have a question about the transmission. In a bug the transmission goes in front of the engine but since the 550 is a mid-engine car the transmission goes behind the engine. What do I have to do to make the car run forward in first gear instead of bakwards...??

Hope theres somebody willing to share some knowledge on this subject.

Thanks in advance

Regards

Javier

The VW swing arm transmission can be reveresed by a fairly simple process called "flipping". The differential carrier and the attached ring gear are removed, turned around, and reinstalled. This should be done with a special tool that allows measurement of the ring gear to pinion mesh as well as the propper fitting of shims to control that mesh. This "flipped" version was used in VW busses for many years by the factory as they had reduction boxes that reverses the direction, So, this flipped version is also called a bus configuration.
