Ed, I've found that putting the plug in the spark plug socket, then using the socket to start by hand works well. The space machined between the cooling fins for the plug and the socket work as a kind of guide.

If you have cleaned any carbon off of the plug threads and given them a light coating of anti-seize compound they usually hand start without any problem.

I torque the 12mmx3/4" plugs in 044 heads to 16.5 ft. lbs. which isn't too tight but keeps them from loosening up.
