Ok...anybody know why VDO stopped making their cht guages?  Looking to buy one for my speedy, and to my surprise I could not find one anywhere.  After researching and reading through some discussion forums, I found that they are no longer making them.  Anyone know a decent, analog alternative?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

@Mike373- Just so you know- the VDO cht gauge is not temperature compensated (I think that's what you call it) so it reads low above 70°F and high below 70, with the further from 70 the ambient temperature is the bigger the error.  70°F is the only place where it is close to accurate.  The Dakota Digital  gauge that Michael runs is a quality piece, and there are a couple others, but they are not cheap.  And as Danny said, the only place to get a truly accurate (and in real time) combustion chamber reading is from right under a spark plug.

DAnny...That one is for water cooled machines.  The needle would be pegged for aircooled...typically running in the mid 300s.  Thank you though.  And thanks to the other guys' suggestions.  I will theck em out.

Agreed, really designed for watercooled. But, in my experience with that gauge, if you're running 340 or more it's too hot. I'd run 260-270 all the time, up to about 300-310 in traffic with lots of idling on a hot day. That's all from the stock EFI sender location. I was looking for the trend, reading the gauge over time and conditions.

Cheers.

@Bobby D, the bracket came from airkewld.com.  They discontinued them after I got it but are considering making more.  I have seen a bracket that is the same or similar from a place in England on thesamba.

I used the bracket because I didn't want to put more stuff in the dash, especially if the new gauges didn't match what was already there.

My steering wheel does block the view of the gauges a bit.  I have to move my head a bit to see them.  But, I don't check air/fuel ratio and head temp as often as the other gauges.

Being in Ann Arbor, I always take special notice of your avatar.
