My VS passenger side door is hard to get open from the outside due to a very stiff/tight latch. The button goes in half way easy enough, but then hits stiff resistance and many people think it's fully depresses and they to open the door, but cannot.

You have to press very hard and then the button kind of pops and goes in further, allowing you to easily open the door. My wife's hands are too weak to get the door open! Opening the door from the inside handle works fine, but with the increased leverage a handle brings, I probably just don't notice the stiffness.

I've tried lubricating it, repositioning the rubber block and making sure the door is aligned. I've looked at the latch from the inside the door and cannot see anything odd looking.

Is there any way to adjust these? My drivers side door mechanism works as smooth as hot butter!

Inside the door, there is a steel rod that runs vertically from near the bottom to the latch above. At the top end, the rod is forked and the latch mechanism must be inside that fork. I put one together once with it outside and it took a while to finally figure out what the problem was. Might not be your problem, but it's worth taking a look. Also, does the button operate smoothly when everything is disconnected? This one should be pretty easy to figure out just by watching what's going on inside the door while the button is being pushed.
I worked on it for a few hours and kind of know what's wrong, but don't know how to fix it.

I found that the latch worked smoothly when operated with the door open. So that told me that it was something to do with the door being closed and the alignment.

When I adjusted the part on the body (striker?) outdated, it worked smoothly but the door was not flush with the body. Adjusting the door position so it's flush, then it binds again. It appears the weatherstripping is causing the problem?

And what to do about it?
