Years ago I was very close to purchasing a Vintage Spyder, but I changed my mind in the eleventh hour, in part because of Greg's reputation for glacial delivery (I also had serious reservations about his non-triangulated, pseudo-space frame chassis design, but that topic has been covered ad nauseum elswhere on this site). I am now planning to bite the bullet and get a 906 replicar, which I feel would be the ultimate vintage Porsche evocation.
on a more pleasant note, the 906 was a sweet car, didn't know they were being replicated; good luck
The phone answering bit didn't last. At this time, you will find yourself hard-pressed to get Greg to answer....same thing with emails. This type of poor-terrible communication doesn't work if the owner wishes to keep his business viable and healthy for any length of time. Greg nose-thumbed me for three months and I will never buy anything from him again. IMO, how VS manages to still stay in business is a mystery. Don't believe me? Check out more complaints in the archives of Spyderclub.
If I were going to purchase a new Spyder, Vintage and/or TR would be the last two companies I would deal with. Just my very educated opinion, since I have dealt with both companies. Sorry, Greg, I too used to be one of your supporters, but no longer.
Thunder Ranch in San Diego was purchased by a new company that has completely revamped production and now builds an incredible 550 Spyder in 12 weeks. The name is Carrera Coachwerks (www.carreracoachwerks.com). I was in their shop yesterday and tested a couple of their turnkey builds. One Subaru powered and the other had a 911 2.7L that scared the pants off of me.
