I recently took a drive in a Beck Spyder. They have a 90-120 day turn around time. I believe they currently have 9 or 10 vehicles they are assembling for customers....this would be a good time to stop by and see their products.

While attending the Dunkle's 356/Porsche event last week, there were 18 of us traveling from the Detroit Porsche club, we stopped by Beck's shop - and got to take a 550 replica out for a test drive - very nice :)

His prices go from 23K to 33K depending on options.

Ask for references.....from any prospective builder/kit provider.

I put my deposit down at TR on 1/9/2004. The frame is already assembeled and powder coated with some parts attached (pedal assembly, barke lines, etc...). They were putting the finishing touches on the body lay up today and said that it will be out of the mold mext week. I'm going again next Friday and take some pictures to post.
I am pretty sure Greg only wants to do turn-key cars now, but you'll have to check with him. It takes just as long to get a roller as a turn-key. A kit is less work for him, but I believe it's "take a number and wait your turn". I waited 16 months for my roller, I think the wait is longer now. It can be frustrating, especially closer to delivery, but I am convinced I purchased the right car for me(no brand war intended). I am sure I would be happy with a Beck or TR also, all the guys that have them seem to be. If time is a factor, either buy a kit from Tom(Thunder Ranch) or buy a used Vintage(or a Beck) and customize it to your desires.
My wait for a Beck was 2 months, and it is a well made, awesome car. It is my daily driver (I'm sure some of you guys are tired of hearing that). I drove it in a TREMENDOUS rain tonight--great handling, sticks to the road, only a few drops of water around the windows; no road water leakage like I had with my Speedster in the rain and snow. If you work with Greg at CBM, he'll guarantee a top notch car in very little time. They do it right. v v
Pat,
Go to ebay motors, item # 2458155469. Car is located in Westchester County, about 20 miles north of NYC/Manhattan. I saw this car in person a few months ago and its perfect; almost brand new with larger engine and many extras. Like SpyderMike said, just don't over pay for it. In my opinion, don't pay/bid any more than $25,000. I believe thats close to the reserve price. Let me know if I could be of further assistance to you in this matter.
Good Luck finding a good deal,
Guido John.
What do you consider overpaying? The Vintage on EBAY has a larger motor which would already put your price "new" from Vintage at $25000 excluding any other options that the car may have. Their base is $23,500 and $1500 for the engine option. From Beck, it would be about $1500 less if I recall. Plus, you don't have to wait. How much is it worth to have the car by springtime as opposed to 2006? I'm curious because my 2500 mile Vintage is for sale and if you add up all options, it would cost over $28,000 brand new. Mine is also titled as a 1956 which classifies it for antique plates(no sales tax in my state) and no emissions. How much more is that worth? I don't think that it that easy to drive your Beck or Vintage down the DMV with a 2004 MSO and get it registered as a '56. Also, as mentioned before, you can be driving the car now, weather permitting.
Vicki,

Take a look under your car in the area. See all of the screw penetrations there? Get a window caulk tube and go over every screw you can find. It might take a half hour to do. The other common area is the front bulkhead area where it meets the floor. This is probably easiest caulked from the inside (if you are a contortionist working for Cirque).

That is what would do if I were you.

Mike
I just purchased the Vintage Spyder that John mentions was in the NYC area. I am finalizing the transaction tomorrow, and hope to take delivery Thursday. (I live in Alabama, and the delivery truck picks up the car on Tuesday.)

It's nice to hear John's comments about the car. It was advertised as nearly perfect with plenty of engine upgrades. I am starting to get excited about the car.

Stay tuned!
.....Mike I am looking to purchase a Spyder within the next 6-monthes or so and want your advice. I like the Vintage Spyder but at
age 65 and gaining I don't have the time for the long wait that Vintage is famous for. I don't like the Beck because the area
for the oil cooler grill looks just painted in (can a grid be installed)
also the Beck looks a little squarish in pictures I have seen.Last but not least does Beck install the side air vents and teardrop headrest if requested
...In about 6-monthes I will be looking to get a 550 Spyder
but at age 65 and gaining I cannot wait the lead time that Vintage
is famous for. I have seen pictures of the Beck Spyders but without
the oil cooler grill they don't impress me in the looks department.
Can the Beck Spyders be installed with a oil cooler grill, air vents
on the side and that pretty tear drop headrest that some spyder
are blessed with. Looks means a lot to me and I will have cash for my purchase. If a good used one shows up about that time and its what I
am looking for I may go that route.

Thanks
Condor

Dear Berry
Contact me before you order. I have a subaru powered Vintage that I ordered 3.2 years ago, billet wheels all the whistles; if it is completed in the next year or so I would love to sell it to you. I have no idea if Greg has started my car yet but hopefully I will know in the next few months.
I have had a Beck Spyder that I ordered from Chuck Beck in 2000; great car, Chuck was responsive and humorous; I have talked to Cary who seems also responsive, and friendly. I got my Beck back then in about 3-4 months
While waiting I built a slick Lotus Eleven Replica, westfield eleven. It took about 350-400 hours, which since I worked alone took about 1 year; but it is an absolute hoot. My wife is talking to me again. The car came in first in the replica class at the national lotus meet here in Indy this summer. You can see the car if you google LOG28, BRG of course. If you are hand at all and had some one helping you the build time could be cut in half. Tom at Manik in texas was great. No I'm not a plant for westfield or Manik.

Sincerely fred

PS I would rather talk to you personally rather than leave a thread that might be misunderstood.
