I just purchased my used Speedster a few weeks ago and am busy making improvements. Can anyone give me more info on what year VW steering column and/or turn switch I need to make things look more original than my current '69 column? I saw some discussion about bus switches but am still confused. Does the bus switch have a cancelling feature and light dimmer? Can this type switch be used with my column or is the column length wrong? I also like the looks of the banjo steering wheel. Where can I find one? Thanks!

Ron,

A mid '60s ('65, '66?) bus switch will work fine, with some modification. The beetle steering column is larger in diameter, and since the turn signal stalk clamps onto it, the switch housing needs to be enlarged. I did mine with an angle grinder and a cone shaped wheel. It has a dimmer switch, and a canceling pin was easily added to my Nardi adapter. The stalk is a bit closer to the dash than ideal, but it looks and works perfectly otherwise.
