If you press on the carpet below where the hood crest is you can feel the holes that are on the underside of the hood. You can make an "X" cut in the carpet and slip a socket and extension through the carpet to reach the nut that holds the handle on. The same thing where the top of the handle is at also. Once you have the handle off you can remove the crest.

The X in the carpet is a great idea but know that the handle nuts are very small and difficult to access and not loose as you remove them . My method of putting the nuts  back on:  I make a small ball out of blue tape stuff that into a 1/4 drive socket and stick the small nut onto the blue tape in the socket, it's still a pita to get the nut to catch on the handle stud thread. IMHO I would first call Greg at VMC and ask it there isa way to pop the emblem off w/o removing the handle form the hood.

The emblem will be replaced, not a big deal if the current one is damaged.

The replacement 'Porsche' crest has a pin which should fit into the handle nicely and could be held with epoxy.

While I'm at it, the script '1600 super' on the back of the car needs to come off too. A combination of floss, plastic pry tools should do it  but I was also thinking to push it out from inside the engine bay to avoid potential paint scratch.  What do you guys think?

The 1600 super script will be replaced with one with a better color match to the 'Porsche' script that's above it.  It's more bronze than gold in color.

Thanks again everyone,

I decided to pry the crest out of the handle.  Amazon dropped off a set of plastic pry tools earlier today.  After a couple of minutes, it wiggled free.  Plastic tools left no marks on the hanlde.

I did cover the car in case the crest snapped out and potentially hit the car.

New 'Porsche' crest fit perfectly in the handle.

Thanks for your advice,
