VS ultrawide width measurement

Could one of you fine gents with a fat bottomed girl in the garage get me a measurement. I need the width across the wheel arches (car width). Both front and back. Recommend a framing square, level, or plumb-bob from the top center of arch down to the ground and mark floor with tape on both sides and then measure between the marks on the floor.

I'm trying to get the suspension layout/geometry sorted so the more accurate the better. Thanks.

I know you are looking for an exact measurement, so I'm hoping our buddies will chime in. While I was at Pismo a few weeks ago, I asked the same question. The answer was that the rear is just under SEVEN FEET.

Hold out for the exact, but that gives you an idea.

I remember my fat boy being 78 Inches or 6.5 feet.

That 78" rear measurement is pretty close to an estimate I did, but it's the front width I really need that's been holding me up.

If it's easier, I could take a tape measure width between the outer edges of the tires, front and rear instead.

Put a bid in on Troy Sloan's Midnight Blue Bandit and maybe he would give you a measurement in return.

Sorry it took nearly a month for you to get an answer.
This is not perfectly accurate, but it's about 69" on the front and 71" on the rear.
Oh...and I don't take checks! :-)

So Justin, what type of bid did you put in for those measurements?

There was no charge for the "close, but not exact" measurements. If he wants exact measurements, the buy it now price is $24,750! ;-)

Just to be clear. Vintage makes two wide body versions and mine is the widest one, which is what I think you wanted. If not, there are several people on the list with the mid size version.

These are pretty close, but I'll try to get exact measurements for you later today....no charge!

The reason I need these is that my spindle geometry requires a specific wheel offset and I don't want to have to remake my control arms if I get the width wrong. Unfortunately, I don't have the work space for both body and chassis, so I'm trying to finish the chassis work first.

Did you ever own the medium wide body, and if so, do you have any pictures?

Using the plumb bob method, my car is 69" on the front and 70 3/4" on the rear. I was only off by 1/4" on the rear.

I have never owned a medium wide body, but Gerd's JPS speedster was a medium wide body and you should be able to see his old photos here:

That rear measurement surprises me, actually. The rear fenders always looked more than 1" wider per side than the fronts in pictures. Must just be those sexy rear curves throwing me off.

Of course, once again weekend project time must take a back seat to charred meat and drunken revelry. Maybe tomorrow...
