Some of you will have already seen me stumbling around looking for a car to buy. I am every bit the ignorant newb I probably appear. Both to the "sickness"Well and to this sites navigation and customs. But I like it here and hope to stay. I need a car tho! So I am declaring it open season. If you have, or know of, a decent used 356 replica for sale, please DM me.

How much are you looking to spend?

That really depends on the car. I have eyes 5 replicas at the moment one of which is a 94 CMC at $12,000 and looks a little rough but drives I am told.  Another one is a 80s CMC at 15,000 that looks decent and one is 20,000 IM (year?) and is very sweet (but still has a couple days left in auction and I would not be surprised to go 35K or even higher) and there's another one that is an Vintage at an ambitious car dealer in Florida who wants $40,000 for one that looks no better than the $15K one. So if you have one that you hope the current price spike is going to give you double what you paid for it I'm probably not your person.  But you know of one that is somewhere in the range of these I be pleased to look at it.

The IM on BaT looks solid, but yes, I would guess the auction on that one will end around $40k.

I would be weary of any replica that's around $10-15k. You'll end up spending at least double that making it drivable and maintaining it. I bought a great car last year from a member of this page (great and reputable guy), and I still had to put $5k in the car replacing parts last year. Looks can be deceiving, and I learned that through my searches. Make sure you have any seller do an independent PPI before any purchase so you can make sure you know what you're buying.

I'm not looking to sell my car - I absolutely love it and won't let it go even if I was offered double the money after 12 months of ownership. I was just interested to know what current potential buyers are looking to spend on the car.

Ray, I have no idea whether I am typical or not but I come from some of the similar cheap Yankee stock that Gordon does. My company did not just go to an IPO and I have no relatives left for an inheritance so I am appreciative of value but careful with how I spend it.

Are you interested in a standard Speedster or would a wide body interest you? I have a friend that goes through Porsches like I go through clean socks. He bought a wide body a couple of months ago and planned on updating the 1600 to a 1776 and I’m sure once he’s finished with it he’ll be looking to move it to make room in his shop for the 914-6 he just bought.

It’s a circa 1990’s CMC. Black on Black.

I don't get the point you're trying to make with that comment, but I wish you the best of luck in your search. I work hard for my money too, so I can understand wanting to be careful with how you spend it.

I wasn't too far off on my guess with that IM - it sold for $46,500. There's still a Beck listed on BaT, currently at $40k with 2 days to go (will prob hit at least $55k).

Ray I was not making that a comment about you. Just saying that I am a bit parsimonious and have trouble bidding in these auctions where things are going significantly more than they were a year ago. I don't begrudge to anyone (again, this is not about you!) who has the resources to have a Porsche collection worth hifh six or seven figures. I just can't compete.

I was watching the BaT trailer auction for the Roadster with a great interest. If I could have had that car for $35,000, maybe $40,000, I would have stretched to get it. It was just about everything I was looking for. I had several exchanges with the seller back and forth who was great to work with. I'm sure both the buyer and seller are very happy.
