Kudos and thanks to Alan and Ed for another great Speedster/ Carlisle event.  Alice and I loved it and the many extras that were included this year that added so much---the free breakfasts, best parking yet, huge hospitality room, and one of the nicest Marriott rooms ever.  Thursday's BBQ dinner and staying right at the hotel was  smart too.  I know that organizing this event  was a ton of work but it was all handled with such poise from start to finish  that you two made it look easy. Stan's surprise appearance was a nice plus---same for the three West Coast Amigos, and how about the Beck Super Coupe showing up?

My 80 year old bones took a hit on this, our eleventh Carlisle  ---I don't remember such a sore bottom and back and the cramping legs on any previous trip but this one was a real challenge.  Our attendance at eleven Carlisle events added up to over 27,000 miles on my Speedster, so I can honestly  say that the miles on it are mostly highway miles! How we ever drove over 3,800 miles to the West Coast event in 2010 is way beyond me, but I have driven my last Carlisle and next year we will be flying to Harrisburg and renting a car.  To me, the greatest enjoyment of these events comes from seeing some of the finest folks I have ever had the pleasure to meet and that won't change.  What will change is the use of our Speedster as a conveyance to the local ice cream emporium and car shows around the state rather than any future "Iron Butt" treks.  I never liked that nickname  very much anyway.

I agree with Jack. As this being my first Carlisle event I feel fortunate to have it been so nicely organized. The hotel was great and the organized functions where easy and fun. I loved meeting all of you and look forward in coming next year. Thanks to those that worked so hard to make the event a success. The good weather didn't hurt either, now if we could move the event about 5-6 hours drive closer to where I live it would be perfect, but many can say the same. I was impressed with the club portion of the event. The car show itself appears to be struggling from what I have read about past events in some of the kit car magazines I used to get. (even those magazines seem to be disappearing).

So glad you and Alice enjoyed the new hotel venue , we'll be back there again in 2020 ~

Did Connie tell you that, Alan?

Bwah hah hah hah!!!!!!!!! 🤣

Jack, I don’t blame you one bit.  Even in my comfy little Bimmer its’s a hike and I’m “only” 750 miles away. You have to be at least 1000. I look forward to seeing you and Alice next year.  Hopefully we’ll have a chance to visit a bit more.

I totally understand, Jack.  That's a big reason why I got the trailer and pickup for our three or four trips up and down the Atlantic coast every year.  We still had two 10 hour days on the road each way, but at least we were comfortable.  Using Carlisle as a stop along the way for a few years was really cool, too (the Jack Russells got to go to a Doggie Day Spa boarding place in Mechanicsburg, which they loved).

Sorry if we gave you a bad taste with the nickname.  How about something more "Guapo"?  Kinda like "El hombre del fondo dolorido"?

Got a nice ring to it.       Either with a Spanish or Italian pronunciation.....

Eleven Carlisle treks in a row.  That's worth a tip of my hat, right there....

With the annual side trip through Arlington to see our daughter's family it's almost  a 2,500 mile round trip. Even your 750 miles, or 1,500 mile round trip is a pretty good hike!

Speaking of long-haul Speedstering, Al and Heidi Gallo turned the trip from Cape Cod to Carlisle/Shippensburg into a 2-day-each-way ride along secondary roads in their Speedster this year.  They wanted (a.) to avoid the interstates and (b.) have an adventure.

I don't now their route, but I know they went through the Catskills and found a really nice B&B there enroute.  I suggested finding their way to RT 209 through the Poconos, but I think they were south of that.  209 used to connect I-81 near Good Spring, PA and went through the Delaware Water Gap park to I-84 near Port Jervis, NY back before those interstates were fully finished in the 70's and is a fun, speedster-friendly road (before tourist season).

Interstates become boring after the first 15 minutes.  The "Blue Highways" are slower, but way more interesting.

The burning question is, how do you know the Jack Russells actually "loved It" did the dogs fill out a  Doggie Day Spa Customer Survey Card and sign with five paw print rating  ?  :~)

When we go there to pick them up, and they don't come tearing over to us but keep looking back to their puppy-friends and the Spa's Pool, you just know.  The place even had a living room where one of the people there would spend their evening shift watching TV with dogs spread all over the couch.  It was quite the place.  We had to give the Jacks extra treats to get them back into the truck - PLUS! - The place had a big circular driveway that made getting the trailer in and out a breeze.

Apologies for the late reply, but Carlisle 2019 is now officially over for us.  Just arrived home last night.

Like Jack, we end up travelling a few miles with our added trip to the Outer Banks - around 1600+ in total.  Still not what Jack does (or had done, if he really means what he says about leaving the speedy home next year).  But - as he says - it's rekindling old friendships and making new ones that counts.  It really was a good gathering.

The car drove great the whole trip, and the weather was good.  Now to cut a ton of grass, give the car a good cleaning, and get this ringing out of my ears...
