What are the real waiting times for JPS Coupe?

I'll be in LA next month on business and will check out JPS' Coupe. What are the real production times? I think a year is not unreasonable for a custom built car but I have read about 2 year waiting times on the message board.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Almost forgot - I'd like to make it look like the blue 356 below. Are those EMPI wheels Porsche 911 or VW bolt patterns?

John says 12 weeks, but painting issues have slowed him down. I think he has that resolved, but he is also probably a bit backed up now due to that issue. My coupe was started (in the que) back in Februray and was supposed to be done and in my hands May 18th. It's now due to ship (hopefully) in the next two weeks.

Mine is #2 and so there are also issues that have developed along the way. Every iteration will likely improve in execution as John and his team learn how to build them better and more efficiently. Each is still a custome car for each owner and delays are part of the package we sign on for when we place the order.

Waiting is frustarting especially when you don't know what is or isn't happening, but all in all I think the time has been reasonable. Call John and get the latest time estimate.

Maybe I was confusing JPS with another vendor (specialyauto?). No disrespect was intended - I spoke to him on the phone once and he e-mailed me a flared Coupe in production. Really nice guy.

Specialty Auto is in Tennessee, not L.A. I knew they had plans to do a coupe, but have not heard they had built any. Hoss would have the inside scoop on that.

JPS does, but Specialty Auto has not announced theirs yet. It will be more than JPS due to the custom frame, mid-engine Subary motos etc. Mid-30K I think.

Tom and I put our orders in just about the same time, as I get it. He is apparently just a bit ahead of me, and I am getting a Speedster. This is week 17 since my 1st check was cashed. Tom has told about JPS trouble w/ paint shop, which put John back several weeks in his productions. Long sad story atatched there, no doubt, and I know only the highlights. It would appear that the problem is solved. I am guessing it will be 20 weeks (~ 1/2 year) before I see my car on the east coast. Maybe if the paint shop connection remains in good shape, John can work back down to his advertised 12 week build times. At this juncture, that seems a bit optimistic. If you order in Jan, maybe your experience will be better -?-

Kelly, looking at the photo you showed me yesterday, it's going to be worth the wait. I see you put the rest of them in your folder. Gorgeous color, and I can't find a single ripple in the bodywork.

there is a shot there that is high on reflections, and they look very smooth. I think I got a good job here. And I hate you for being able to be there and see it for real -- and I'm not! We are tussleing now about the color of the canvas: dark red or tan. I think I like dark red. What do you think??

stupid idea maybe but i like the continuity of the look

I think I'm going dark red. At Carlisle I saw a dark blue car w/ dark blue canvas, and a green car w/ dark green canvas, and I liked both of these w/ top up. John says he has never done a dark red canvas top/tonneau before, so maybe that is reason enough to do it.

PS: Is this what you call a high-jack??

I was at JPS this last Monday and I saw your green car and they were working on it. Looks like the dash was getting ready to go in and they were fitting the rear popout window quarters. Nice color and she is definitely going to be a beauty. Congrats!

Thanks Tony. This is the hardest part - waiting for the finishline to come into view and see her cross over and get the checkered flag. uggghh! Only consolation is she is really starting to look like the vision that I started with.

Ulrich, I love that Blue car. That's how I started - with a picture of a car that I fell in love with and then set out to emulate. Hope your project goes well.

I am really torn between doing something fun like Bright Blue or even Yellow, or something sophisticated like Dark Metallic Gray with a Red interior.

That's kind of why I picked the BRG. Out there a little but still somewhat classic in a racing kind of way. Hey just go for it. These cars are all about being noticed. Go YELLOW!!!! Then have John put that yellow engine shroud on it or a red one. Stand out!!!!
