Reading the other thread, "the best transmission . . ." got me to thinking.

Lets say that Rancho or KCR or one of the other transmission rebuilders came up with a competitively priced alternative to our type 1 transmissions. Let's further say it was the "autmated manual" type, which could be shifted by either steering wheel mounted paddles OR by a floor mounted shifter. No clutch pedal required.

Seems to me that the driving experience would be quite different, less involving, maybe a little too civilized?

Would anyone here do it?

Paddle Shifters on a Speedstah? Been thinking about that on my new build, but the only way to get there (realistically) was running a Subaru drivetrain and flipping the R&P to keep the engine out back.

I would run a modified, paddle-shift T1 transmission, but since I would be probably one of three in the World, the demand isn't there to justify either having someone make one or the resultant custom pricing.

Nice idea, but I doubt it'll ever happen. Might be easier to go electric instead.

Barry Hudson has a T-3 automatic in his Cabrio - THAT's a much more reasonable alternative....
