Is there a lot of black trim on the car now?
Perhaps on a 914 with a Beach Boys Body.
Easier to render an opinion if you show the entire car. Based on that shot, I probably would not include that in my build specs.
I spent like 6 hrs each stripping and polishing my 914 2L Fuchs --- and they still need more. (Photo is only hour or so in). Now that I that far in not sure I want to totally embrace --- but it looks great.

for me, those are 914 rims...period
Al,
Not yet. I only did one wheel, just to look and see. Thanks to all for the feedback.
I do like the looks of the 914 Fuchs blacked out with the outer rim polished. All black? Not so much. The red ring belongs on the tire...
I agree with Terry. The blacked out center with polished outer rim & thin red stripe sidewall on tire.
Personally I prefer "Pedrinis" over what we call "Porsche 2 litres" over here.
I used to run them on my oval bug drag car - in original black and polished. (It was on a late Ghia chassis with bug pan halves.....
I also tried them doe a while in "matt and polished" finish. Looked good too. - (Only polish the highlights and the bits black finished on the originals are in a "rough cast" finish.)
The gas burner Mahles used on the 914 are nice wheels too - very light. There's a set on ebay now for a not unreasonable starting $450 bid in GA.

^ dang - those are nice!
And the black 914 wheels - that offset is not good. It looks like there is something wrong with the suspension geometry of body mounting on that car. those are crazy low offset wheels and the tires are skinny yet they are still about to rub!
Personally not a fan of the 914 wheels, but everyone is entitled to build / design as they like.
Mango:
The offset problem, is only on the driver rear side. As I understand this, it is only on the CMC bodies? I have 3/8" spacers on the front and there of course no clearance issue.
I am considering going to a lower profile tire, to distance the well from the sidewall?
I also may shave the lip for more clearance?
Thanks for the feedback

There are a lot of rear disc brake options that add considerable track to the rear. Why the VW hobby accepts them is a total mystery to me.
I too have the Fuchs 2L on a CMC with tight fit on DR side (185/65x15). These Fuchs are getting so costly that I should be able to sell them and buy repro Fuchs with a better offset plus drilled rotors/discs.
DeLorean successfully pushed Pontiac's wide track years ago - great sales pitch for them --- no so much on a replica.
Those are really nice! How much? (and how much do they weigh?)

They look like COVINGTON wheels...or very close. When I got my car and considered trading in my FUCHS, I was quoted $4800 shipped for 4 as the back wheels needed to be widened because of my rear 911 suspension. Needless to say, I have grown a bit fond of the FUCHS and when looking into selling the FUCHS to fund the COVINGTONS, the Porsche aficianados took exception to the back ones "NOT" being originals as they were widened by IM during the initial car build(because of 911 offset/etc.)
I've done the same thing, Banzai- taken a pair of original 6" alloys and had them widened 1" on the inside for the back of my Speedster (by probably the same shop- Green's, as I am a Vancouver boy) so yeah, they're not real 911R 7's (I don't have 3 or 4 or how ever many thousand dollars for a pair of back wheels) but since I don't own a real Speedster and don't care that I will never be a card carrying member of the local PCA or 356 chapter it doesn't really matter. If you seriously decided to sell them, while they may not command 911R prices they'll still be worth a fair penny to the VW crowd (or maybe even another plastic Speedster owner). In short, you have a very cool car, so
WHO THE HELL CARES WHAT THE P OWNERS THINK!!!
ALB: I was trying to recoup the dollars for the Covingtons but despite big interest on the front FUCHS, got the flack on the back ones and was not willing to spend another 2K for wheels. The Covingtons would enable my baby moon mindset to come to fruition but fortunately for me, I grew to like the FUCHS on my car and said "to hell with the baby moons"(LOL). Henry(IM) warned me on the potential FUCHS issues with the Porscheophiles...but I'm not bothered by them at all, certainly now that I'm keeping the Fuchs. But yes my car is a knockoff and my FUCHS are half breeds and I am truly happy as a pig in sh*t

sorry for the late reply. been busy.
Have you readjusted your body on the frame/pan? i farted around with mine for a while until it just perfectly spaced side to side. IIRC, i even had to oval out some mounts to make work.

Mango;
No worries.
I've been very busy also and have not gotten any further.
