Why is the Porsche replica so much in demand?
Is it the cost of the real thing ?
The rareity?
The fun factor that only a rear engine 2 seater can only offer ?

I think a lot of people spent more time than normal surfing the web during the pandemic, and many of them were either interested and decided "...there's no time like the present," or were new to the replica world and fell in love with something they weren't previously aware of. There may also be a component of "...we might get hit by a bus tomorrow so live awhile you can." I expect a period of time where some of the folks have buyer's remorse and sell their spots in line.
They should put that spot in line on our classified section

Edit: any of the well made replicas are WAY more fun to drive than the originals; more power, better handling, suspension, top end, , 0-60, braking, relative insurance costs

Adult toys in general are scarce and selling at premium prices - boats, RV's, sports cars.
Unable to travel as in normal times, people are going nuts looking for diversions away from crowded spaces.
Our local Porshee dealer hasn't had any 911's, Boxsters, or Caymans in stock for, like, a year. At least none advertised. I imagine if you're willing to slip them a premium they might find one for you - as long as it's a bigger premium than anyone else is offering them.

... or are looking for things to do where they won't be harangued and nannied. Driving an open car engenders a sense of freedom in most people, which is something that resonates strongly with a lot of us.
While many people lost their homes and businesses because of the pandemic, and plenty of others lost jobs and income, a substantial contingent have made out very well. There's a lot of money sloshing around the upper two-fifths of the income distribution.
Over the past two years some tech guys made fortunes, as did people playing middleman in the PPE follies. Then there's the federal "loans" and grants. And the ludicrous stuff like Bitcoin.
Next to that, place the savings many have enjoyed (or endured) by hardly eating out, never buying concert and sports tickets, and skipping vacation travel. Time is money, and that time has been spent surfing the innerwebs, dreaming of spending the money on cool ****.
Plus there is an actual shortage of actual usable new cars, squeezing the market.
It's kind of a perfect storm. Hence the inflation we see in out little clown car corner of the "automotive enthusiast space."

Good answers above. The only word I would mention that I haven't seen above is "timeless". What other car from 1955 up through even 2000 still looks so fresh and right?
COVID and old clientele with $ in bank "gaining" .5% interest. My wife says the leave kids memories and not $! Worked too long and hard to "see" kids quickly blow it on latest new video gaming system! Just don't want guv'mt to get any of it.
356 John , all of the above!! are why they are so popular; and whatever you do don't stop to fuel up if you are in a hurry. You'll have people taking photos and asking questions, plus it never fails you'll get a thumbs -up every outing.
