Windshield Replacement?

Has anyone had to replace a windshield, like after construction or turnkey's arrival?
I came out, uncovered the car and there was a crack in my windshield...It wasn't there when I put the car away the night before, but it sure as shit is there now!
Please don't tell me it has to go back to the Vintage womb...

are you sure about that price? a group of us ordered windshields
last year and coulndn't touch that at twice the price [or more].

Thanks guys... If indeed it is easy enough for thunder thumbs to do his-self, irrespective of windshield cost and source, I may attempt it and while the windshield is out replace the tonneau fasteners with those tenax style jobbies.

I get so tired of ducking the passenger side tonneau as it comes whipping off, slappin' me sideways whilest I'm driving!

Don't worry, I did it on my last speedster. It's extremely easy and the windshields are only around $320. I bought mine from Vintage. Took me about 30 minutes to replace.
There are 2 screws in each of the chrome posts. Remove them.
Pull off the chrome frame. Posts stay put.
Pull out the windshield.
Put in the new one.
Put on the frame.
Put in the screws.

Thats it.

Paul,

Use a water and liquid detergent solution when sliding the windshield into the rubber gaskets, it makes things easier.

The spyder guys are always changing their speedster windshield for a plexi one. Ask over there (spyderowners.com or spyderclub.com)and you might get one for less.

Paul, as already mentioned the job is fairly simple. BUT (big BUT) - slip the new windshield in and check the orientation of the side posts before you tighten anything down. If one or both are slightly skewed loosen and adjust them to a good fit with the glass before you tighten everything down. The idea here is not to have any unusual pressure against the glass from the posts when the car flexes (and they do flex).

Remember the one year manufacture split-window Corvette coupes? The reason they had the split rear window was the body could flex so much (chassis was weak) that a one-piece rear window could crack when the car was jacked up. The chassis was reinforced for the next year's production to allow a one piece rear window.
