Wait for the DRLAs.

You can often find them on the Samba- but you'll want to have them gone through my Art Thraen even if you buy them somewhere else. His rebuild/blueprint/jet service is second to none.

I'd recommend just going straight to the source for the whole deal, and giving Art a call- he often has a set of 40s or 45s for sale. 48s are harder to come by. 48 tri-jets are like hens-teeth.
I am leery of anything EMPI, specially carbs. Did not know that Art was doing these and will follow up, but once bitten ............

Dell 40's might be a bit small and the largest venturi I can find is 36mm. This might just do for now with my small heads now at 40 x 35 on a 2332, but I am concerned that is still is a bit small, and not sure about tuning a 36 venturi in a 40 body.
45's OTOH would work now and room to grow into better heads.

44 IDF's would be OK but I am hoping for a set of Dell 45's

I have Dellorto 48 Tri-jets on 2332 with 44/37 valves. I also have some experience now to say this is a mistake. It is cool to say you have them, but after a long road of undriveable trial and error I eventually learned "more is not always better".

I think the 2332 is just not a big enough pump to pull enough air through the big Dell 48s, especially with 40mm vents. After working my way around through various jets and vents, I found that choking all the way down to 36mm vents was about the maximum "hole" in my 48s for any kind of drivability.

Still, I am over-carbureted. I believe the Dell 45s with 36mm vents would have been the perfect choice for my 2332.

Robert--I am not a shill for EMPI and am aware of the rep they have earned for themselves.

Art Thraen takes the new versions of the HPMX carbs and goes through them and blueprints them. I can't imagine that Art would put his name on them after his service if they weren't satisfactory.

Jake Raby, who is known for fanatically high standards uses the Thraen prepped HPMXs after doing one additional process to them.
There is an interesting thread on the Samba; search HPMX carbs and scroll down to the posts about getting HPMX carbs from CiP1 Vs. reworked Thraen/Raby ones.

Until someone uncovers a trove of NOS Dells and Webers this might be our best bet.
