Speedster friend

Many of you will remember the handsome man on the right!  It's the former owner of the Little Red Tub, Oklahoma's own Cal Monsma!

There I was, walking out of a Phoenix Home Depot, minding my own business, when this fellow approaches and asks, "Fifty-seven?"

"Fifty-seven," I replied.  Before I could even gauge whether it would be worth getting into the whole replica thing, he asked who built it, and we were off to the races...

Cal was visiting his sister here in Arizona, and it was a real pleasure chatting with him!  He asked whether I was a member here at speedsterowners.com, and I said I was, and that he probably knew lots of the characters on here, and he said, "'Characters' is the right word!"

I couldn't believe that, before he traded his Speedster for a sailboat, he trailered her from Oklahoma to Paso Robles for the West Coast Cruise, AND to Carlisle for the May event...

Anyway, he had the kindest words for many of you, including Alan Merklin (Dr. Clock) and @musbjim , whose luggage rack and skis once belonged to Cal.

And Cal proves that you Speedster guys are always the nicest guys in town!

Hey Cory, what a great chance encounter with our old friend, @Cal Monsma!

He & his wife were at our SOC West Coast Cruise when it gathered at Morro Bay years ago. He did gift me his vintage cross-country skis (wooden) and ski poles (bamboo) plus the attachments for our luggage rack. He is definitely a very interesting guy and he and his wife were great fun to hang out with.

Cal's ski's and ski poles on my previous VS and now on my current VS when attending winter time C&C events.SpeedsterVistaSpeedsterSkiRack

Very cool.  😊

Cal gave Heidi permission to use his photograph of his car in front of old style gas pumps. A very cool watercolor that was donated at a Carlisle raffle several years ago. I think David Kumph ended up with it because it looked like his car. I think Heidi still has it on her website through Fine Art America, amongst several other cars owned by friends and SOC people.
