Sorry to sound vague here, but does anyone know where the CMC manufacturing plate was originally placed on the speedster models? I purchased one last year and feel like I have checked everywhere. I think the car might be manufactured by CMC due to the shape of the flared guards/yankee brand light fittings and a few other bits and pieces. It did originally have a 'VS' emblem on the front hood handle? Paperwork was limited and I'm located in Sydney Australia so I only have the import/compliance plates for Aus fixed inside the boot. Thanks in advance

Yeah, those "Yankee" directional lights up front are usually a give-away that it's a CMC.  The only other place you see them is on a big truck!

CMC never placed their manufacturing  plate anywhere.

They included it with the Certificate of Manufacturing Origin, in an envelope, so that the owner/builder could mount it where-ever they preferred.  The number on the plate matched the certificate of origin and the number on both was actually the customer order number for the body when manufactured in Miami, Florida.

Here in the USA, the vast majority of CMC cars built never got that plate mounted and it was hardly ever looked for by the local Auto authorities when registering the car.

I received a plate with my body kit and 30 years later, when I re-registered my CMC Speedster as a Porsche Replica due to changing registration laws in my state, I still had not mounted it.  The inspector passed my car (similar to an MOT inspection) and suggested that, since I had the plate, that I mount it in the driver's door jamb with the new VIN plate that he issued to me, so I did.

Hope this helps

Yup - they gave you the plate with CMO.  I can't remember if they included the 4 brass attachment pins?  MG Magic sells the gold plates for all the CMC models except the Speedsters - darn.  I even asked in an email.

Badge, Identification Plaque "Classic Motor Carriages" Classic TD - MG Magic, Classic Motor Parts (mgmagicclassicmotorparts.com)

CMC Hood emblem supplied (VS had their own too).  I don't think the Calif C model got a hood handle or emblem (since it says Classic)-
