It probably doesn't help you but I just received a 16 gal tank from Pacific Customs that has an angled-down-to-filler feature of the tank with a filler neck that is only 1/2" high at it's top enge from the tank body.

The filler is smaller and required the purchase of a smaller diameter cap, but the whole thing seems as though it was built for us.

it's their iem #201075113ab-16, listed as being for the '61-'67 type 1.
Turn the tank upside down to avoid filings getting into the tank then using that forbidden hacksaw, make a light cut all the way around the neck than as you cut straight through, the blade will track straight...been there a couple of dozen times.
Some of the aftermarket tanks happen to have a slight taper to the neck and if so, you can get away with just filing the cut edges smooth and with a light coating of JB Weld as a sealer, tap the shortened neck into the retaining neck...done~
OR you can braze it with brass instead Of JB Weld .

But even a brand new tank will have cosmalall in it. Not combustable but does collect dust and trash.. Wash out the tank with water when your done.

(((and check it for leaks.)))

Use lacquer thinner to remove the cosamalall and displace the water, and put it in a hot dry place, to dry out.
