You may remember me mentioning Charlie Padulla, of Charlie's Rod Shop, here in my town.  He's been building very high quality Hot Rods and Street Rods since the early 1960's and is kind enough to give me help whenever I need it - like quick access to a lift!

Anyway, Charlie and his wife are long-time Hot Rodders and long-time Snowbirds, taking his mobile shop and a car or two with them to Naples, Florida every winter.  Two years ago, I saw him in the Revs Institute booth at the Lime Rock Historics weekend and found that he has become a Docent at the Collier Museum (and also bought an '89 911, "just to fit in with the other guides there").   The Collier Car Collection has the largest collection of Cunningham Racing cars anywhere (they tracked some of them at Lime rock - They were Beasts!) as well as a true, racing example of just about every major race car, ever.

If any of you are getting down to Florida this winter, you should plan a day and put this museum on your list.  They have a WHOLE LOT MORE than the Cunninghams to see and it would be well worth the trip.  Ask for Charlie Padulla as a guide and tell him I sent you!

Gordon,

You are right on target concerning the Revs Institute. I live in Naples for 8 months a year and do multiple visits to the Revs each year. The collection of cars is truly remarkable--particularly the Porsche Collection which has a number of historically significant Spyders and a couple of 356's as well. Access to the cars is excellent, and it is never crowded because they restrict the number of visitors each day. One thing to remember, reservations are needed to gain entry, and during "season", reservations can be difficult to come by. Reserve early!! Lastly, the docent tour is absolutely the way to go. The volunteers who give those tours are uniformly excellent and really enhance the experience!!!! But the real bonus---after your tour, you'll leave the Institute and walk out into sun, palm trees, and 80 degrees.......

I did not clue in to the 8 month statement sorry.

A friend lived in Naples 6 months out of the year .... I went to visit a long time ago, nice canals and the highest # of Benzes, cars that is, in all the USA.  According to the dealer anyway.  His quote: " there is gold in them there wrinkles" lol

Actually my inlaws had a house near Clearwater for years and we have been going to Kissimmee yearly now for 15-16 years to escape the snow we love it.  Often thought of moving there but you never know we may winter there in the coming years.
