it's obiviously up to you.

i ended up putting the passengers side one on too and it's totally useless (can't be adjusted to make it functional - and i don't like the look of a convex mirror on top)

I like where mine are mounted for appearance. I'm not fond of too far forward on the fenders or on the door. They stick out too much, in both cases, IMHO. My passenger side one is useless, however. If I had another one built, I might go with Carrera mirrors further out so that I could see both through the windshield (driver's side is hard to see with side curtains in). Since I don't like side moldings, either, I would complete the look with a louvered decklid and Carrera badging.

I mounted a passenger side mirror on the door before the last trip and never regretted it. I do most lane changes with a shoulder check and the mirror makes me more comfortable when the roof is up. I did have to do some carefull grinding on the swivel ball and very carefull mounting in general but the right side mirror works as it should. I just checked and if my left side mirror was on the fender, the windshield pillar would be in the line of view. Also, the mirror is so pretty small so closer is good.
I took a bunch of pictures at Carlisle to see what mirror options folks choose. What's weird is some of the Aero mirrors are mounted on the doors but the base is at a 45 degree angle with the top edge of the door. When just forward on the fenders - near the back seam of the hood - they seem to mount straighter. I have 64-65 356/65-66 911/912 Durant stainless steel mirrors which were typically mounted on the doors. I also have one Aero mirror but chrome quality leaves a lot to be desired so doubt I'll go the Aero look. The real Talbot Jr. bullet mirrors are nice on GT looking cars but not the classic finished ones.

Ever see some of the classic British sports cars where the mirror is mounted on the very front of the fenders?
