If anyone still has the desire to send SAS money it will have a like experience to tossing your hard-earned cash out the window. With that said, please do think twice and just send it to me.  I'll be sure to send you a Thank You Card.. more than you would get from Stevie Wonder.   Agree, a sorted JPS can be a decent ride however, ordering new and having to deal with the now well known Jeckel - Hyde syndrome touches on the real possibility of losing one's sanity.

I never recommended buying from JPS.  I just gave them an an option.    I thinks you need to move past this.   It’s eating you up.  Maybe try a real money eater!

Beautiful car, Tod. I'm betting you've spent some time on Pelican or Rennlist and have a feel for how things work there. Both are good, but this is a different kind of forum. Many of the folks here have been here for many years (quite a few have been discussing these cars for decades). I am not one of the the sainted oldsters, but I have grown to appreciate the smaller pond aspects.

We disagree, but we try not to be actively disagreeable. We depend on each other to fill in our gaps in experience and knowledge. We're never perfect, but we try to be especially welcoming to new members.

In my reading of your reactions, you act like you're offended that others are expressing caveats about your observations. It's not just @Stan Galat, there have been many years of others sharing their purchase experiences with JPS on this site. We feel a responsibility to help new buyers out, and that is why your posts elicited a reaction.

It's ok to be prickly on this forum, but you have to earn your credibility. Current or past ownership of a really cool car doesn't cut it. Having a lot of disposable income doesn't earn credibility. Long term experience and knowledge are golden. Being generous to newbies helps, a little, but it depends on the quality of your help.

Spend some time here before taking too much offense. We're usually just trying to help folks out.

Offense?  None taken.  My novice opinion is that JPS puts a car together well.   Seems his dealings are different.  I cannot comment to that as I’m not an original buyer.
If I sounded   “offensive “ that is probably because some are easily offended.   I like this crowd, it’s inclusive and wise.   Thanks for taking all that time to write out the lengthy reply Dr  you know me so well,  I long for “credibility “   🤣    Happy new year.

edit; Fuchs look like hell on a 356!   😘

This was probably a case of mistaken identity, Karen — luckily for you.

He's likely been watching all of those 'Karen' videos on the internet and just assumed you were one of those folks. Most of them would have even our hero cowering in fear.

Anyway, great news! But, you may have just used up a lifetime supply of good karma. So, try not to step on any sidewalk cracks.

Cheers!

@Cartod A used JPS MAY be a good car, as that possibility exists with ANY used Speedster. All used Speedsters should be carefully evaluated, JPS are no different.

But as far as buying new? Nope, not a good choice. There are far more negative dealings than the less-than-a-full-handful of good experiences. That is a fact.

I've never bought a Speedster, period. I am a Spyder guy. I have no dog in this hunt.

But I do have first-hand experience working on MANY new and used ones. I somehow end up tweaking carbs(among other things) on all manner of aircooled stuff. It's easy for me.

Just as it's easy for John Steele to lie. It's like breathing.

The after-purchase care is inversely proportional to the distance from the customer to the shop. I live on the east coast along with many of his customers. Guess which way it went?

John Steele is John Steele - that's been made clear.  What would prevent me from considering a new JPS is not so much him as the quality at delivery.  We've seen several JPS cars delivered to members of this site that were so poorly built as to be dangerous.  It was clear that no test drives were taken, no bolts were rechecked for tightness, and no opportunities to cut corners were missed.  Perhaps this is an occasional thing, but it's still a serious issue.

As for SAW, once delivered his cars seem to be ok, albeit inconsistently so.  The problem there is that the number of deliveries is a fraction of the orders taken.

I bought interior bits from JPS - seats, carpet, & upholstery for the rear seat.  Steel got all 3 wrong.  The seats had the wrong carpet on the back.  The carpet didn't have the footwell pockets I ordered.  The upholstery piece was too small even though I had given him the needed dimensions.

Steel did send new carpet pieces.  I had to redo the seats myself.  I had to spend $400 to have someone else cover the rear seat.  It doesn't exactly match the front seats.

@Cartod it sounds like you have not had the pleasure of dealing with Dr. jekyll/mr. hyde face to face...i have!....luckily just a painful memory.....after 4 years and some sorting and customizing on my dime....it is a nice replica...i have invited others that are interested to DM me and i'll give 1st hand accounts of my year & 1/2 "relationship" with a unique personality....it may be a MOOT issue for you now....but feel free if you want more info

THAT'S our John!

I'm really sorry, Michael.

Let me guess - you (like me) looked at the rating system on the old website and saw 'ol John-boy had ALL 10s!!!

It was a valuable lesson to me. Never trust a rating system where people are trying to protect their own investments.
