I finally found a Speedster replica to suit my style and budget. It's a well-used older CMC with almost 19k miles, but well cared for. I trailered it home this past Sunday from the other side of Pennsylvania, and took care of the title and tags over lunch on Monday. Since then I've been having too much fun on shakedown cruises to post, but now that it's raining, I figure it's time to spread the news. I've found a few minor things that need sorted, so I'm grateful for this forum and the expertise of the membership.

Hey, Eric........    That car's pretty sharp!   LOVE the red - Don't know if it's paint or gel coat but it really pops.  The seats look custom, too - Kind of like regular Speedster seats with a bit more sideways support.

Looks like you've scored a winner that was put together like somebody cared!

Gordon,

Thanks for your kind remarks. That's the original gel coat, not paint. There are few chips and scratches, but I have yet to find any stress cracks. The seats are new, the previous owner installed them. I didn't think to ask where he got them, I should probably do that. They have plenty of side support, but they're snug on my slightly larger than average frame. Definitely not for fat-bottomed girls. ;-)

Eric

Even given the bad rap that CMCs usually get, the bodies are well made and I have seen only one or two in the past 17 years that had any kind of stress cracks, and both of those had been built without the support holding up the front of the body, so Wha'dya Expect?

I think you scored a really nice car, Eric, so Congratulations!

Oh, and "Fat Bottomed Girls", part of their "Bicycle Race" album, is on my cycling playlist.  (I think I still have the poster somewhere, but the video is better!!)

Nice looking car! Love the red with the polished wheels, that's the look I'm going for in the next decade or so! Very nice seats, they look like they might be the Empi seats, I've got 914 seats and they are comfy but more side support might be nice. I'm a 36-38 waist and as my wife says very little badonkadonk, so if I might ask, how above average are you? (wow... this  is   starting   to    get     weird!) .

Chris,

Yep, odd conversation indeed. I'm 5'10" & 195, so a little on the chunky side. My waist is 36, but my weight is mostly out front. The seats snug right up to my hip bones. I have to take my cell phone out of my left rear pocket to fit, but once I'm behind the wheel, I can go for hours. The seats are surprisingly comfortable.

And you're right. They are Empi 62-2880-0 Low-Back Roadster Style seats. Thanks for the tip, yet another piece of the reverse-engineering puzzle solved!

Eric
