Just got done syncing and tuning my Weber 40s, 1915 cc engine. I have mastered the tuning by ear/rpm as far as mixture, as well as being able to perfectly sync the carbs. I was having issues with sluggish advance time, so I swapped in one blue spring on my Magnaspark, and it really made the difference for my timing advance time. The timing onset is spot on, and it scoots. I have no overheating issues and my engine compartment is completely sealed with only the grill as the main air intake. I do find that as an engine ages and gets wear, you have to find the sweet spot for the timing, and this has been the case for many Volkswagens I have owned over the years. I’m glad I’m able to do all the work myself, saves me a bundle.
