fiberglas was cut and replaced with steel parts,
same for the rear seat and the engine compartment

Impressive! Talk more about the pan/chassis work. Did you cut a Bug tunnel and weld steel over it to flatten it?

I lowered the vw tunnel to reflect the height of an original 356, A flat steel plate of 3mm thickness has been rewelded on top.
inside the tunnel are welded additional square tubes to reinforce it, one of them is used to put electrical cables

Congratulations for such top notch work; I am very impressed. I love when a well thought out plan goes together.
Door hinges had too much mechanical float, this is due to plastich bushing which are destroyed after years of work. So I decided to change them by copper bushing using a repair kit for another brand but with the good pin diameter.
Rest of the car will be painted in the coming days.
Some other details.
Front wing support, the tube is attached to the headlight and is used for e-wiring like the original speedster. A support is also added on the rear fenders.
These supports are necesserary to avoid cracks consequently to vibrations of the body.
Engine hood latch, to use the original one it's solve the problem to easily open the hood.
Jack support using the square tube, is not finished on the picture.
By this way the vw jack can be used.

I still laugh everytime I see the CMC seat kit! I started working on one of mine (with seat heaters and pressure sensor (from 914) and pushed it aside when I decided to go from red interior to tan (on a black car).
